Wheelchair Basketball

Want to try something new? There is wheelchair basketball running in Memorial Hall from 7pm onwards. They need some people to play against. Wheelchairs are provided and for the first couple of nights Sheryl from Sport Bay of Plenty will be at Memorial Hall to give some instruction. There is no cost to this, so if you want to have a game of wheelchair basketball before or after your game then pop through and see Cherryl. Everyone is welcome.

 General Information

Thank you for entering the summer league and a big WELCOME to those new teams. We have 6 teams in the social league and 10 teams in the competitive league. However, the first night is going to be a settling in night/grading night. After the completion of this night I will make a call as to how best run the grades and will communicate this to all teams.

Court Manager
Ross McQueen will be the court manager for this league. Please see him if you have any questions or need some assistance. Ross will make himself known to those new teams.

Rules
The rules of the league are noted at the bottom of the draw.
Rules to note are:
The "Masters" rule for fouls commited whilst in the process of shooting will apply. Please see Ross/Cliff if you need this clarified. This is to stop any intentional fouls while shooting to run down the clock as the clock does not stop!
No free frows - again this is to keep the game flowing with a running clock.
No 24 Sec clock operating - the refs will watch the 24 sec in the competitive league.
Basic Playing Rules - I have attached some of the more common rules in basketball for those new to the game.

Game Times
We are pushed for time due to the large numbes of entries. Please complete your score sheet before your game (this will be located at the Court Manager's desk). Please be ready to start your game on time as games will run to time. There will be 5 minutes between games for the next teams to warm up so please clear the courts quickly after your game. You can have a chat with mates away from the courts.

Scorebench
Please ensure you have someone to do the scoresheet for your own game (one from each team). Ross will be able to give you any help for those who have not done this before. It is very simple.

Referees
Referees will be assigned to your games. For those players who know how to referee and wish to ref any paid games before or after your game please see Cliff - 0211434158.

Draw
The draw will be emailed out weekly to the contact on the registration. If anyone else wishes to be included in this email please let me know. The draw will also be on our website - www.westernbaybasketball.co.nz
Please inform your team members.

Default Games
We do not expect to have any default games in this league. If for some reason your team cannot make your game please let Ross 0273137007 or the Leagues Manager know asap so that we can provide a make up team for your game.

A game will also be deemed a "default game" if your team does not have five players to take the court within the first five minutes of the first quarter of your game.

Players can only play for one team. A player can only play for another team if they are short of numbers and if the opposition is in agreement to this. If the opposition is not in agreement then that player cannot play or the game will be deemed a default game.

Registered Players
Please have your team sorted by the third playing week. Please complete the attached team list and return to me by the third playing week. If you need to add a new player to your team after the third playing week then please see me.

Bibs
Bibs are available for those teams who do not have a uniform. If you need to use these bibs then please see the Cort Manager before your game starts.

Payment
Please ensure your team is all paid up by the third playing night. We are being strict on this as teams have not payed in the past. If your team is not payed up by the third week of playing we will pull your team.
Cheques to be made payable to "Western Bay Basketball Assn". Payment can be dropped off to me at the Sport Bay of Plenty Office, 406 Devonport Rd, or posted to PO Box 2135 Tauranga or paid direct into our Bank Account:

Name: Western Bay Basketball Assn
Bank:    ANZ
Branch:    Cherrywood
No: 01 0422 0073883 02
Ref:    Spring League - name of team e.g. Hoop n Mad

If you have any comments on the above or any suggestions that would add value to this league then please either send me an email or give me a call.
Enjoy the league, play hard but play fair!!

The bottom two teams will play the top two teams in the B grade

The top two teams in this grade at the end of the round will be awarded a prize (all games count!)
The winner of games between A and B grade teams will also be given a prize.

Social
Bench Warmers
SCS
KO Flooring
Nga Matua
Revamped
Hooplar (were Waverines)
Waikato University
The Mortimore Magic
Teams will play a round robin and the winners and runners up will be awarded a prize

FEES ARE DUE THIS COMING MONDAY - please pay before then or on the night to Ross McQueen. Thank you.

GAME TIMES - we can now start a little earlier in the QEYC. Please be ready to take the court for your game on time. Clocks need to be started on time and we don't want you to waste any of your playing time!

BIBS - new bibs have been ordered so hopefully will be here with coming Monday. If your team does not have a uniform it does help if your team can wear the same colour shirts/singlets.

RESULTS TABLES - these will be up and running after the next competition night (2 November). They will be sent out to contacts but also can be found on the website - www.westernbaybasketball.co.nz.

RULES - After a foul has been called the ball needs to go through the hand of the referee before it is inbounded (this gives the referee time to make their call before play resumes). Conversely, after a violation e.g. like out of bounds, 3 seconds etc play can continue without the ball having to go through the referee. This just keeps the game a bit tidier for all.
